Portrait of a Woman with a Mirror

Titian, around 1515
Musée du Louvre

Ultra high resolution color imaging allows us today to see minute details in the painting and to accurately record small chromatic variations, such as the trace of finger used to form the golden lock of hair or the subtle pink glazing that extends slightly beyond the lip. The grey under-layer which was placed below the carnations tends today to appear in places where it should be completely invisible.
